“Enjoy Rotary”

A year of ‘firsts’, fifteen members were involved in District activities.

Through Geoff Martin’s efforts the Club was listed with the District Rotary Friendship Exchange Committee.

A Frank Forster art exhibition was set up and manned.

David Vermeren and Nelson Cullen organised the Club’s building of two playhouses. The subsequent sale of raffle tickets raised $7500.

Other fundraisers included the Rotary Club of Fairfield, Chartwell Square golf tournament, and sale of fruit trays.

Membership climbed to 69 and Julie Grayson became our first lady member.

Tongan assistance continued with a kitset marketplace for Ha’apai. Frank Forster and Don McArthur were on site in Tonga to guide assembly. Tongan trainee, Panisi Lafa’ou visited the Club for three months to learn carpentry skills.

Take a Kid Fishing was run again. Thirty-six members visited the Martha Mine and Whangamata.

David Vermeren was honoured as a Paul Harris Fellow.
