Window on Waikato was rated a great success raising $13,000. The outdoor furniture raffle, Dinners for Six and Christmas puddings added some $10000, while Lorraine Bartlett’s brilliant Noisy Silent Auction was born and cleared $3000 on a fun-filled evening. The help of club members at the Turtle Lake Concert raised $600.Graffiti Cats continued their community work and funded a mural as their anti-graffiti Millennium Project.
RYPEN was another great success. Matched Twin Exchange and RYLA were supported. The club sponsored a student to attend the Science Summer School.
Two Emergency Boxes were completed, and five Club members visited Dromona Rotary in Victoria.
Club activities encompassed a Rotary quiz, ten-pin Bowling, and an international Irish evening with the Irish Consul–General as guest.
Donations went to Hamilton Christian Night Shelter, the Spinal Cord Appeal, VSA (for an AIDS care co-ordinator to Zimbabwe), Food in Schools, Hospice, Rotary Against Malaria (Vanuatu), and Fairfield College Book Prizes.
The Club’s Millennium Project finance stood at $6000, and an application to WEL Energy Trust for $9000 to complete a Portico at Hamilton Gardens’ Music Conservatory awaited WEL approval. The children’s Christmas Party, a visit to Rainbow’s End, was aparticular highlight.
The Club adopted a Three-Year Strategic Plan.
A Certificate of Appreciation was awarded to Colin Sheppard. Lorraine Bartlett was presented with the President’s Fellowship Award and Bill Parsonson was presented with an award titled Presidential Citation, Four Avenues of Service.
