Last Monday evening the club paid a visit to the Rescue Helicopter base at Waikato Hospital. The rescue service is provided by the Philips Search & Rescue Trust, which has helicopters based in Tauranga, Rotorua, Taupo, Palmerston North and Hamilton. The Trust also operates two fixed wing aircraft out of Hamilton airport, which are used to provided aero-medical services nation-wide. They are equipped with the latest available medical equipment  The Trust relies on community support to raise 50% of their annual operating costs.
We were shown a PowerPoint presentation of what the Hamilton based helicopter does, along with a close inspection of the aircraft. The operation of the helicopter was explained in great detail by one of their very experienced rescue personnel.
