1979-1980

President - Gary Orbell

“Let Service Light the Way”

In Rotary International's 75th year, District Governor Bill Lockyer convinced Gary to share the Rotary Club if Fairfield’s Jubilee project with the other five Hamilton Clubs. The resultant St John Ambulance project chaired by President Gary, and with all sub-committees headed by Fairfield Rotarians, welded the six clubs into a single fund-raising team - a mighty achievement in itself.

With house-to-house and business-house appeals, and cultural and sporting organisation contributions, over $50,000 was raised to purchase Hamilton and New Zealand’s first Life Support Ambulance and train two attendants.

All Club committees had a successful and active year and Stuart Timpany was honoured as a Paul Harris Sustaining member.
